Crossing Over on the Ferry

This weekend marks the end of National Poetry Month, but our Creative Writing students will soon begin working on their "Final Projects," which is supposed to be the creative piece to serve as the culmination of their lessons.

We will end this month with this metrical exercise by senior Juniper Windham, notable for being rich in imagery and symbolism as well as being written in perfect iambic tetrameter.

Between the banks, below the dusk,

Across the river, past the boats.

Through all the river’s muddy musk,

It glimmers, gleams, and swiftly flows,

Until it falls into a swirl.

Then in the delta’s heart it goes

Just like a shining oyster pearl.
