"When rules are thrown to the wind..."

Mr. Windham was particularly pleased to have a student turn in a free verse poem about freedom and limits and rules and chaos. Enjoy this poem by senior Katherin Wood:

Chaos

Chaos

It runs freely through our veins

It remains kept in check by nothing but you

It, encouraged, can of course evolve.

Evolve.

What happens when chaos evolves?

What happens when structure is thrown away?

What happens when all is turned to dust?

Dust.

Now present, everlasting

As stars all are in passing.

Dust remains when all is gone,

Now all what was, now is gone.

All order abandoned

Just as it has left us

Though it may be better,

How much so?

When rules are thrown to the wind,

Freedom comes far more openly.

Then you’re free from limits

Free from rules

But was it ever worth it?

Which is better?

To have rules to help

Or to throw them out for the sake of Freedom?
