Our Creative Writing students learn that poetry isn't always grand, epic, or romantic. Rather, it can also be happy and sweet or just ordinary and real. This poem by senior Jonah Basinger is a playful take on the very real emotion of a sugar craving:

sugar

i feel so hungry.

i need food soon.

who needs real food though?

i want a lot of sugar.

i love snowballs,

i love froyo,

i love coffee and cakes.

theres nothing i want more right now,

than a reese’s milkshake.

i’m on a sugar binge;

i don’t care about health;

i want a lot of sugar.

give me gummy bears,

give me almond joy,

even a kinder egg will do.

just let me have something sugary,

or i dunno i’ll throw a fit.

i say i'm hungry,

i say i want food but really,

i want a lot of sugar.
