Poets often use things that we can all relate to in order to express something deeply personal. These 2 poems, by seniors Kaolin Scallan and Jamie Weindel, were both submitted as part of a "Free Verse Challenge" in class, and both poems just coincidentally happen to mention wind and breezes in the first line. After that, each poet dives into different territory entirely.

A feather blowing in a breeze,

A leaf running along a stream,

Feel the wind blow through your hair,

Like waking from a lovely dream,

But this is not a dream.

The flowers may be blooming,

But the wood is rotting,

And this place no longer feels like home.

The wind breezes past

Walking across the field

And reaching a bee’s former nectar house

Fine, yellow petals land softly

As its olive stem nears the ground

It fights for another breath of life

Hoping for a drink tonight
