Writing poetry is an exercise in creative freedom, but good poetry generally doesn't come by accident. In our Creative Writing class, we treat writing as a discipline -- something that the creator must work on to make sure that the finished product is the best possible version of itself. The goal is to put in the work so that the end result seems effortless.

"Dreams to Behold"

Seeing the blue in those eyes,

Bright even against the blue of the seas.

The strands of blonde waving

Warmly in the glow of the sun.

The look of slender hands, serene and steady,

weaving threads of colors into one.

But the holder of those eyes and blonde and hands

Also holds dreams as well.

But maybe some time recent,

Or maybe some distant time ago,

Those dreams invaded mine.

Those dreams, so dear, became mine as well.

Those dreams and my dreams, I cherish always.

So I hope that my dreams would find their way

To the holder of those eyes and blonde and hands

That he holds my dreams as well.
