Poems are generally outlets for whatever might be on a poet's mind, and obviously students spend a lot of time thinking about school. This poem by senior Portia Robinson catches her ruminating on her imminent graduation and moving on from high school:

Here I am as the end grows near

Stuck in this purgatory

Where did all this time go

Suddenly I'm considering a career

Not too long ago

Life was school buses and swimming pools

and secret crushes and bending the rules

Now here I am, having to file taxes

I'm not even sure, what is a W-2?

I miss the child who just relaxes

Most things now feel foreign

Like a dog saying “Mooo”

I used to have free time

Now I can barely get a second to which is mine

There is always something to do

Not in heaven

But not in hell

Work, write, weep and whine.

All for something brand new

Now as the end grows near

I'll have to go

I hope it’s worth the fear

I guess I shall let you know
